 Good Finger and Ring Gauges - RecommendedFeb 09, 2011

This a good basic set that includes a Ring Mandrel and Finger Sizer Gauges. We have just started making jewelery and didn't want to invest a lot in these, so I was very happy to find a set this price. Here are my observations:
> Ring Mandrel < This tapered black rod is used to find the size of rings from size 3/4 to 15, in 1/4 size increments
Pros -
+ Accurate; was accurate for rings of known sizes I tested
+ Hexagonal Shaped Handle; prevents it rolling off the table
+ Eye Hook; has a metal eye hook in the top that I used to attach the Finger Sizer Gauge set
Cons -
- Plastic; this is made from very light plastic so I have concerns about how durable it might be
Misc -
* Has a trench up the back that the listing indicates is to protect stones, but I can't see how that would work
> Finger Sizer Gauges < This set of rings is used to find a person's ring size from 1 to 13, in 1/2 size increments
Pros -
+ Accurate; tested a sampling of the gauges on the Ring Mandrel, after I had confirmed against rings of known sizes
Cons -
- Hard to Read; numbers on the little tabs are very hard to read, I use a lighted magnifier
- Plastic; these are made from thin plastic so I have concerns about their durability
Misc -
* The half sizes are indicated by the whole size number followed by a dash, so "10-" equals a "10 1/2" ring size
Overall I am quite pleased with the set and think it is a fairly good value. We will likely invest in a better set of Finger Sizer Gauges if we decided to use them on customers in our shop.

I bought this ring mandrel to make wire wrapped rings on. It works well for that. It does have the groove on the back which i was concerned about, but it made round rings with no problem. If you want it for sizing rings only it is perfect, and a GREAT price.

I just got this in the mail today...i was aware that the ring sizer was plastic and it really doesn't bother me, but the simple fact that the mandrel didn't even come in the package is disappointing. This is deceiving . Please be aware that the mandrel is not included.

Cheap plastic, but if you aren't using them for business then what do you need. Meets expectations but doesn't exceed them. Compared the sizes to rings we already had, they seem accurate, if the rings are. Adequate, but not special. Good for occasional use.

I received the "keyring" of rings, but it was cheap plastic, not metal as pictured. The sizing stick was absent altogether. Don't buy this and don't listen to the other positive reviews -- either they're fake or the supplier is not always shipping the right thing.
