It is important to have a layout board like this when designing complex or graduated bead jewelry. This is a good example, with flocking to prevent beads from rolling. It is lap-sized, but large enough for a desk. It is lightweight.

Not flimsy like the other beed board we own (One from Jo-Ann Fabrics). Provides ample space and the markings are easily read.
A Beading Board For Accurate MeasurementsJan 17, 2011

This was a "must have" investment to help design and accurately measure a bead necklace. The non skid surface aids in holding beads in place too. My only complaint would be the product title leads you to believe the board is 35 inches in height which is not the case. It is 13" in height. Of course the product description gives the actual measurements but the title is misleading.
