Better than what you pay for.Feb 15, 2010
By Richard Decker Perfect for my starter kit for the watch repair I do. Some day I'll get a Bergeon or Swiss made press but until I have $500, this will do quite well.
Sturdy and strong. I like the nylon dies because I'm certain they won't scratch anything.
It even held up to being put into a vice when my full weight wasn't enough to snap a Swiss Army back cover back on.
Highly recommended. It really is a great deal, especially for the price.

By Robert A. Barnes I got this press to work on some of my wife's watches. It was a piece of cake to use and did everything it said it would do. Great price too!

snap, snap, snap 3 watches fixed in seconds!!Jan 11, 2012

I have decided to try to replace my own watch batteries. I own several watches, and to take them to the jewelers for a new battery seemed like a waste of time and money. So I ordered batteries from Amazon.com. I removed the backs of my 4 watches with great difficulty. But I did manage. Then when it was time to snap the backs back on, only one of 4 would snap. Again with great difficulty. For the other three simple snap on backs I tried even pressure from my thumbs plus the extra thumbs of my husband. I tried standing on my watches, using pliers, using a hammer and socks, and placing the watch backs in the freezer. NOTHING worked. So I searched around and found this watch press. I figure all I have to lose is time if the press doesn't work, I can send it back.
No directions on the press, but it is rather obvious how to use. The 12 discs that came with the press fit my 3 watches. I put the appropriate discs on the little metal press, and squeezed the handle. Little pressure and sure enough... SNAP! The back was firmly in place. I could not believe it. So I did the other two watches in seconds. I am totally amazed at how this tool made my 3 watches usable again. I also ordered the tool to remove the backs for next time. A small investment for a small blade. I wear my watches like jewelry, so I like to have several running at a time. This will pay for itself rather quickly. But the satisfaction that I can do it myself is priceless!!

Handy little tool for the DIY watch repairmanFeb 09, 2012
By Reviewer I used to snap close all watch cases with my bare fingers, until I came across this little ladies' 100ft waterproof Timex that I could not squeeze enough to close and was afraid to break it while trying.
I got my press at nearby Harbor F. store for thirteen (reg. price) with the six pairs of nylon dies. The dies alone are worth the cost - do not lose them! H.F. sells their Watch Case Press on Amazon. I believe it to be the very same tool as listed here.
The largest nylon pair in the vise leaves a 16mm gap between them, which is enough to accommodate a thick men's watch. One could also use a regular bench vise with these nylon dies to close a wristwatch.
Six of the dies have conical-shaped intrusion on both sides, and the other six dies are flat on both sides. The sizes printed on the hollow dies in [mm] are: 39-40, 35-36, 33-34, 31-32, 27-28, and 21-22. Their hollow and conical shape allows applying them for any round watchcases from 13mm to 40mm in diameter. There are also nylon dies available for rectangular watches but not included in this particular set.
Quality is more than decent for what it cost me. Nothing looks likely to break; top and bottom pins in the press are aligned pretty straight. There is some play on the handle but no play on the moving piston. The tool is made of cast iron and weighs about two pounds; nylon dies seem tough and solid - not likely to break.
How to operate it: pick a hollow die that fits the watch case just outside its glass and fit it to the bottom pin of the press. Then get a flat die of a diameter of the watch and place it on the top pin of the press (the moving piston). Then gently align the watch on the press. The back cover usually has a tiny notch that goes over the winding stem, do make sure the notch is placed directly over the stem. First press gently, making sure all is properly aligned, then give it a firm squeeze until cover snaps into place.
This tool paired with a good watch case opener knife will make you popular watch battery expert in the family ;)
Recommended.
