magnifier help for macular degenerationJan 06, 2009

I purchased this product for my mother who is 99 years young and has macular degeneration. She used to love to read till this affliction of her eyes left her unable to read. She has now read two paperback, fiction stories and is starting on her third. This litttle item, the Baush & Lomb Hands free magnifier has helped her tremendously. Thanks to Amazon.com I was able to purchase it at a reasonable price.

Best I've seenJun 12, 2008

I do a lot of knitting and my eyes get tired. I bought two other magnifiers of this type and sent them back because the view through them was horrible. This is truly optical quality material and gives a crystal clear view. I can knit a lot longer without getting eyestrain with this magnifier. Truly a quality product and worth every penny!

Useful for so muchJan 12, 2009
By Jacine The Hands-free magnifier is great for many uses, sight impaired, close work, reading, sorting small objects. You need to balance the unit with the adjustable cord- if you find the correct setting, you can accomplish your job with little other effort. Great product

This magnifying glass is a livesaver for my 95-year old mother. Without some help like this, she cannot read a newspaper, book or any other written material.
This product makes her life much easier. It is lightweight and easy for her to hold and use.

Poor Quality ControlDec 02, 2010
By Jason When I removed this hands free magnifier from the manufacturers box, a small piece of clear plastic fell out onto my desk. It was the broken off piece of molded plastic that holds the support cord. Not wanting to return the product, I re-attached the broken off plastic piece with super glue, and that worked fine. After cleaning the viewing lens I noticed that it contained scratch marks in the middle, and that told the story.
This product appears to have been dropped, which not only broke off the piece of plastic, but also scratched the lens, and instead of discarding it, the employee who likely dropped it placed it, and the broken piece of plastic, into the manufacturers box, and it was sold to me.
This problen has nothing to do with Amazon, or the retailer. It is a manufacturing problem. Thinking that this product was likely made in China, much to my dismay I discovered it was made in the USA. We don't need this kind of shoddy quality control on USA manufactured products, and my advice to Baush & Lomb is to get their act together.
The functionability of this product seems to be pretty decent. I'm 70 years old, and my eyesight is not what it once was, so this hands free magnifier does seem like a pretty good idea. However, due to the low 2X magnification, our corrective lenses are a must. Fortunately, they can easily be used with this product. Were it not for the problems stated above, I'd likely have given this product 5 stars.
