5Excellent substitute for sterling wireJul 29, 2010
By Amy the Craft Diva "Amy J"
I have been using this product for 3 years now and am very impressed with it. In fact, I prefer it over sterling wire, because it WILL NOT TARNISH. You must take care while working with the wire so you don't scratch off the clear finish. Use NYLON-JAW pliers while working with this wire or coat your metal tools with a rubberized finish, to prevent damaging the finish.
You can gently hammer this wire without damaging the coating, so you aren't stuck with just a round wire look.
If you take care you will get a beautifully bright silver wire piece that will never need polishing. GO FOR IT!

This wire is very popular for wire wrapping because it is easy to work with, doesn't tarnish, and looks beautiful. Would definitely recommend if you want a high end look at a very reasonable price.

This stuff is AWESOME! It has a nice sheen, it's easy to use, and I made a lot of ear cuffs and pendants with it! LOVE IT!!! And it's the best price I've been able to find anywhere.

5Excellent product!Dec 18, 2011

I've been making jewelry for several years, and went from the cheap wire found in many of the chain craft stores, to using some sterling and some Artistic Wire. I found that about 90% of the time people preferred the jewelry I make using Artistic Wire. My most popular items are my rings, which sell for $40 - $45 base price. I make my rings almost exclusively with Artistic Wire because people love the shiny silver that holds it's shine, preferring it over sterling due to the price factor, and also the fact that silver tarnishes. Artistic Wire is bright, very easy to work with, comes in a huge variety of gauges and colors, doesn't tarnish, and is strong - comparing nicely to working with a dead soft wire and holds it's shape like a hardened wire. I do use sterling balls if people want balls on an item because I find the other balls I've tried "turn", and that is not a pretty picture!
Artistic Wire is so affordable you don't shed tears if a piece doesn't work out as well as you'd hoped, or if the customer orders a custom piece, and asks for a redo it's not as painful as redoing a piece in sterling!
Beadalon makes wonderful products, and I never hesitate to purchase something if I see the Beadalon name. I know it's usually something that's reasonably priced (depending on where it's purchased of course) & will hold it's value. This particular 20-gauge Silver Plated Non-Tarnish Artistic Wire at a little over $4.50 is a great value! Most of the Artistic Wire I purchase is between $4.50 & $5.50. You just can't beat that value for inexpensive wire.
There will be times when only sterling, or another precious metal, will do. At those times you use it and appreciate the beauty of precious metal, and hopefully have a supplier who is fair in their product pricing.
Artistic Wire by Beadalon is an excellent product, and an excellent value. I would highly recommend it to anyone searching for a nice jewelry wire that is easy to work, makes lovely pieces, and holds it's shine and brilliance!
