4A little hard to work with, but serve their purpose wellJan 04, 2011
By Kate Witt "SnakeGrrl"
I bought these to attach charms to a charm bracelet. I figured they would be more secure than using jump rings. I was right. They're small enough that it's hard to work with them and get them attached to the bracelet and then attach the charms to them, but the extra security is very much worth the effort for expensive sterling silver charms. I think these would also work great for attaching delicate pendants to a chain or string of beads.
My suggestions for using this product? Don't put them to use the day after you trim you fingernails, because slightly long fingernails really help in opening them enough for the charms and bracelet links (or whatever else you're using them for) to go on to them. Work with them on a dark background in a well lit area (e.g. a piece of dark colored cloth underneath a lamp) so you can see them well. And don't get frustrated if it takes you a while to get the hang of using them. Took me a while but now I'm confident in my use of them. And if someone with fat, clumsy fingers like me can learn to use them, anyone can.

This product is easy to use and produces results! I purchased these rings to attach charms to a charm bracelet. Again, easy to use and the charms are securly fastened.

5Worth The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!Sep 04, 2011

I have a charm bracelet "charmed" entirely with blessed medals (Blessed Pope John Paul II, St Teresa of Avila, St Benedict, St Faustina, The Holy Infant of Prague, etc) which, as you may know, are NOT CHEAP. Each medal is about $50 give or take and, since I am a house frau and mother to small children, the jump rings on my bracelet get a lot of abuse -- tugging, pulling, swinging.

I bought a soldering kit (I'm a LOUSY solderer) and thought that was the only way to keep my medals safely in place. But with the softness of the jump rings and the toll my lifestyle was taking on them, I was having to solder each ring about once every three weeks -- hard to do when you have little ones underfoot. So when I saw these I snapped them up!

Don't buy the pliers, you don't need them. Just make sure (as another reviewer said) that you have moderately long fingernails. That should do the trick nicely. Do not -- I repeat, DO NOT! -- try to install these when your three-year-old son refuses to take a nap and you're in the middle of making pot roast. HELL.

*Do* make sure you have enough time to spend with the rings (they're a little tempermental) and that you say to yourself before you start the project "slow and easy, no rush: it's just like putting keys on a new keychain," which is essentially what you're doing. The whole process of taking my old jump rings apart (breaking down the solder and prying them apart) and installing these new jump rings took about three hours. But I have twelve medals, an eighteen-month-old, a three-year-old, and a husband who likes hot, homemade Sunday dinner. So your mileage may vary.

I am IMMENSELY relieved to know that each one of my medals is safe and securely fastened onto my bracelet and I won't have to check and recheck each day to make sure one of the rings hasn't snagged on a shirt or that my solder repair job has broken down yet again.

Getting another set of these for the rest of the medals I am hoping Santa will bring me for Christmas.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
